Psychotherapist

Welcome to your process of healing and growth.  It takes courage to face our discomfort and accept its invitation into a more honest conversation with ourselves; to know ourselves more deeply, fully, authentically.  In psychotherapy, this process is done in the presence of a compassionate, curious witness.  We sometimes both long to be seen by another and also fear being seen.  This paradox is honored.  Psychotherapy awakens us to the layers of who we are and how we came to be…the sorrow and the beauty.  Grief and gratitude.  One for each hand.

You may be reaching out because you are experiencing a great loss, or even many losses from the pandemic, or feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve your growth.   You may be experiencing pain or conflict in relationships, anxiety at work, stress from trying to “balance it all”, or residual pain from the past.  There may be a sense of increased collective grief and eco-anxiety.  Acknowledging our pain and discomfort brings us back into conversation with ourselves- all the parts.  From here we begin the process of healing and meaning making.  There will be great rewards….. not just for yourself, but for those you love and the world around you.

My Approach

My Approach

My approach to psychotherapy explores the unique life story of each individual (with the personal unconscious) while also remembering the larger connection to being human (with the collective unconscious).  It is depth-oriented, drawing from Jungian, analytical and psychoanalytic psychology.

While you, the client, lead with present issues, concerns, and goals, our work will connect the dots with past experiences, forgotten or left behind parts, symbols from dreams, sandtray work, somatic expressions, and the unfolding events of your life.  In this way we are reweaving your story into a fuller expression of who you are;  one that you will come to inhabit in a more embodied, present, and clear way.

About Me

I have been working in the field of mental health and well being for over 30 years.  After completing a BA in Honors Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1990 I worked in residential treatment and group homes for adolescent girls, project managed a research study on pregnancy, health behaviors and attachment at UCSF, then completed an MA in Dance/Movement Therapy at UCLA in 1996.  As a dance/movement therapist I practiced in residential treatment for adolescents, adult psychiatric hospitals, and wellness programs for women.  I completed yoga teacher certification in 1999, a 2 year Professional Seminar in Jungian Psychology at the North Pacific Institute for Analytical Psychology, Seattle in 2007, then opened my private practice as a licensed mental health counselor psychotherapist.  While practicing I have continued post graduation education and training in Jungian psychology and Sandplay Therapy.  I work with adult and adolescent individuals, combining verbal and nonverbal modalities to deepen my listening to the whole person.
